P4 Authority signals

Content readability

Content readability checks how easy the main text of your page is to read, leaving out menus, footers and banners. Very long, dense sentences are harder for people to follow and harder for assistants to quote accurately.

Reading the result

What good looks like, and what a problem looks like.

Good

Plain sentences of moderate length in the main text.

Not measured

When this cannot be checked, the result says so and leaves it out of the score. Unknown is not zero.

Typical problems

  • Dense text built from long sentences.
  • Sentences that are long on average.

What it cannot prove

  • Simple text is not automatically better. The check flags text that is hard to read; it does not judge quality or accuracy.
  • A page with very little text is shown as not applicable.
  • Only English text is scored. A page in another language is shown as not measured, because the formula has not been validated for it.
